The Studio

Light Made Luminous

Rained Glass is a stained glass studio nestled in the New Jersey Pinelands, where forest and shore meet. Every piece begins with the same question: how does light want to move through color?

Inspired by the natural world, the work draws on both contemporary and traditional design, finding a language that feels both modern and timeless.

Working with traditional copper foil techniques, each panel is cut, shaped, and soldered (using only lead-free materials) entirely by hand. No two pieces are alike — the nature of glass itself sees to that.

Care Card

Thank You For Your Purchase!

Rained Glass LLC is a women-owned, small business. Thank you for supporting the arts!

Rained Glass forges only Lead-Free stained glass, hand-forged with care. It will last a lifetime if you follow these simple care tips.

How to Hang

Glass will break if it falls.

  • Do not use suction cups, they can pop off windows.
  • To avoid finger prints, handle by the edges.
  • Ensure the chain is securely attached at all attachment points before hanging.
  • Hang on a strong, secure hook.
  • If you do not wish to hang the piece, set it securely on a windowsill or use a tabletop display stand.
  • Ensure your piece is safe from curious pets, children, and clumsy people.

How To Clean

To clean the glass:

  • If necessary, spot clean using a mild dish soap (like Dawn) or window cleaner (the blue stuff). Gently dry with a soft cloth.

How to Polish

Stained glass solder naturally oxidizes over time. To restore the shine of the metal:

  • Gently remove any white oxidation on the metal with a toothpick.

Wax On

  • With a dry microfiber cloth apply a thin layer of carnauba wax (found in car wax or furniture polish) over the entire piece (the glass and the metal). Let it dry to a haze (give at least ten minutes).

Wax Off

  • Gently buff the entire piece with a dry microfiber cloth. The solder lines will give a handsome shine.
  • Buff the glass sections a second time, or so, with extra care at the edges. Heavily textured glass will need a bit more detailing to buff away the wax.

Carnauba wax is plant-based. It creates a protective coating on the solder, which slows the oxidation process. Maybe every couple of years, or whenever the solder looks a little dull, or you're thinking about Mr. Miyagi, grab some carnauba wax and Wax On, Wax Off!
